Version #3 -- While Doing Carpentry work at a movie studio -- Ford was Spotted By George Lucas. Who remembered him from a tiny role in "American Graffiti. Asked him to audition for STAR WARS.

I Got Promoted and Found myself Managing 800 Employees.
